Consumer prices rose 0.1 percent in August 2013, a US Labor Department report released Tuesday showed. The figure was below forecasts with economists expecting prices to rise 0.2 percent to match July’s gain.

Consumer prices jumped 0.5% in June 2013, the biggest gain since February and well above the prior month’s 0.1% advance, US Labor Department figures revealed Tuesday.

Consumer prices climbed 0.1 percent in May 2013, reversing direction from two consecutive monthly declines of 0.4 percent in April and 0.2 percent in March.

Consumer prices fell 0.4 percent in April 2013, marking a second straight monthly decline when coupled with the 0.2 percent fall in March. The huge reversal contrasts sharply from the 0.7 percent increase in February.

Consumer prices declined 0.2 percent in March 2013, more than most analysts expected and following the higher-than-expected 0.7 percent increase in February 2013 — the largest since June 2009.
